Unique, exclusive, creative

The Melbourne Collective Design Markets are a collection of local designers and creatives showcasing their products and selling their wares to the Melbourne community.  Join us for one BIG day of shopping, music and great food and support local, support small business.

'The Melbourne creative scene is  bursting with talent. It's so important for emerging designers to have a reputable platform, to showcase their wares in a highly curated yet beautiful space and be encouraged to share their artistic endeavours with the world, to be discovered on a national scale. This event is an essential part of that journey.' Julia Green,  Greenhouse Interiors

5 Questions with Kate and Kate

1.  What is the story behind your business name:
It was pretty simple and easy really, Kate & Kate was the first name we came up with!

2. What was your inspiration to start your own business:
My sister in law/best friend/business partner Kate and I were both embarking on separate projects when we came across our amazing suppliers… it was totally by accident, but within a half hour of meeting them, we had decided that we were going into business together and that blankets would be our thing.  We'd always had issues with blankets and throws – baby blankets that were too kitsch, too small, had no use past the infant stage… throws that were too busy, too expensive.  The list went on!  Once we started designing, we found that we could create blankets and throws that had multiple uses and appealed to a wide aesthetic.  So Kate & Kate was born.”

3. What does your workspace look like:

I am so lucky to have the space I work in, it is a little slice of heaven. Designed by Fiona Lynch, the K&K home in  Port Melbourne warehouse/showroom is a gorgeous open space with clean lines and plenty of light - a  place where you can catch your breath. We have buddha radio pumping most of the time, lots of coffee runs throughout the day and a big wine fridge out the back filled to the brim with Logan Rosé that keeps us all going.

4. Best thing about your job:
Being a part of the incredible australian design scene is such a highlight for us – meeting so many amazing people, like-minded creatives, business owners, retailers, media. It’s such an inspiring community and we feel so lucky to be considered part of it.

5. Best advice you could give other creatives who would like to start their own business:

Hop to it, don’t wait – just do it! Sometimes you just need to follow your heart!
